Wo(mm*)bles of Wimbledon
This summer, a few mark-makers were lucky enough to visit Wimbledon in person while the tournament was in full swing. We asked the guys to share a few highlights, so here are words from Emily, and pictures from David.
Emily
I honestly don’t know how to sum up how I feel about SW19.
As soon as those tickets are ripped and you officially pass the All England threshold, you enter a happy tennis world. Nothing matters apart from second-serve percentages, and whether you had a good fruit-to-booze ratio in your most recent glass of Pimm’s. The combination of intimacy, prestige, history, and the resurgence of beautiful backhands, encapsulates why SW19 has a place in everyone’s hearts.
Sitting on Centre Court (CENTRE COURT. WHAT?! I KNOW!), you can’t help but feel blimmin’ proud to be witnessing the world’s tennis greats on home turf. Of course, you do try to ascertain some backhand tips when there’s a Federer masterclass in action… but whoever’s keeping your attention, nothing else matters apart from tennis. Roger that.
I couldn’t help but notice that the brand activity was top notch of course. I was very lucky to have seats on Centre Court, but I had some mates there who did the queueing thing, and they said the HSBC tennis courts were awesome while they were waiting…
There was plenty of other brand action, too. When I got back, I hunted down a couple of good Econsultancy articles so I can show you what I mean…
- How the LTA are acing it, upping their game on social media
- And this, a fab roundup of the broader brand marketing activity, written by mm* alumna Kasia for Econsultancy, including virtual reality and real-time marketing
We were lucky enough to spend a day on Centre Court, but we were determined to be no less stylish for the rest of the tournament, even if we couldn’t be in the thick of it!

A few shots from a brilliant day at Wimbledon, finishing with sunset over SW19…
