Making our mark* on social media
In today’s marketing and digital environment, simply having a website is not enough. Our audience is active online more than ever, and the largest proportion of the time they spend is on social media. Social media is not just a place for people to talk to their friends. It has become a search and discovery engine all its own, and it’s increasingly expected that you, whether as a professional or as a business, have a social presence.
While mark-making* has had a Twitter and Facebook account since 2009, we hadn’t devoted the time or resources to implement an actual strategy, and we needed to up our activity. 2012 was the year mark-making* made its mark on social media, with the arrival of Kasia, the creation of new accounts and a ramp up of activity.
Having a structured, well planned campaign paid off too: the first month saw a 27% increase in overall website traffic and a 375% increase in social media referrals. The next month saw web traffic increase by a further 19% and social media referrals were up by 104%.
It is always nice to get a nod of recognition regarding our work as well, with our recent West Oxfordshire Business Awards nomination for social media showing our innovation and expertise.
But, besides straight metrics such as visits and time on site, we made some amazing new friends from around the world. People we would have never been introduced to if it wasn’t for social media networking.
